New Zealand is launching a postgraduate diploma for associate psychologists to tackle mental health shortages.

The New Zealand government is now accepting applications from tertiary education organizations to establish the country's first postgraduate diploma program for associate psychologists. This initiative, announced by Minister for Mental Health Matt Doocey, aims to address the mental health workforce shortage and enhance service access. The program will start training at least 20 associate psychologists in 2026, who will work under registered psychologists' supervision.
