In 2022, Ireland experienced a 10% decline in births compared to 2021, with a birth rate of 10.5 per 1,000 people, down from 15.6 in 2012. The fertility rate was 1.5, below the replacement level of 2.1. The average age of mothers rose to 33.2 years. Despite fewer births, the population continues to grow due to net migration. Deaths remained stable at 6.9 per 1,000, with neoplasms as the leading cause.
