Victorian State Coroner John Cain has called for heightened public awareness about the dangers of consuming wild mushrooms after 98-year-old Loreta Maria Del Rossi died from eating death cap mushrooms she foraged from her yard. Her son also fell ill but survived. The coroner recommended that the Department of Health run annual autumn campaigns alongside the Victorian Poisons Information Centre to educate residents on the risks associated with wild mushrooms.
