Barrie Tibbetts, a 67-year-old retiree from Brisbane, discovered a 2kg hepatocellular carcinoma tumor during a routine check-up, prompted by abnormal liver function tests. The 15cm tumor, which had begun invading his diaphragm, required a six-hour surgical procedure by Dr. Joel Lewin at Mater Private Hospital in July. Tibbetts is now recovering well and plans to travel around Australia with his wife, Leslie, in a new camper van.
