Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced that the Illinois Flag Commission received 4,844 design submissions for a new state flag. The commission will select the top 10 designs by year-end, with public voting starting in January for these and three older flags. By April 1, 2025, the Illinois General Assembly will vote on whether to adopt a new design, revert to a previous one, or keep the current flag, which has not been redesigned since 1915.
