Onagawa Nuclear Plant's No. 2 reactor restarts on Oct 29, the first since 2011 disaster.

The Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant in northeastern Japan will restart its No. 2 reactor on October 29, the first boiling water reactor to resume since the 2011 disaster. Tohoku Electric Power Co. cleared safety screenings in February 2020 and obtained local consent. The Japanese government is promoting nuclear energy for energy security, despite public safety concerns. Twelve other reactors have also restarted under new safety regulations since the Fukushima crisis.
