Ireland's Department of Finance has approved a €500 million share buyback by Allied Irish Banks (AIB), reducing the state's stake to around 21%.
The buyback, announced on September 2, priced shares at €5.44, the highest since February 2018.
This move allows the state to recover a total of €16.6 billion from its AIB investment, with proceeds to be managed by the Irish Strategic Investment Fund.
