Environmental groups find excessive mercury in tinned tuna across multiple European countries.
Environmental groups Foodwatch and Bloom have found dangerous mercury levels in tinned tuna across several European countries, including Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. All 148 sampled tins contained mercury, with over half exceeding the 0.3 mg/kg limit set for other fish. They urge the European Commission to adopt stricter mercury regulations for tuna and call for retailers to stop selling products exceeding safe levels. Mercury poses serious health risks, particularly to the nervous system.
