George Chandler, a 99-year-old D-Day veteran, has died. He served as a torpedo boat gunner escorting U.S. forces during the Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944. Known for sharing the stark realities of war, Chandler criticized glamorized depictions of the event. His boat was sunk in April 1945. He was to lead the Blind Veterans UK contingent at a Remembrance Sunday event. His family plans to scatter some of his ashes in the Adriatic Sea.
