2,100-ton suspected toxic waste shipment sent back to Albania after Thailand's rejection.

On October 28, 2024, the Turkish-flagged ship Moliva returned to Albania's Durres Port after Thailand rejected its cargo of approximately 2,100 tons of suspected toxic industrial waste. The Basel Action Network (BAN) alerted authorities about the waste, which may contain hazardous electric arc furnace dust. Albanian officials have initiated an investigation and ordered the containers to be stored securely while testing for toxicity occurs.
