A survey of 3,000 Americans identified the most common fears by state. Death topped the list in 17 states, followed by heights in eight states. Snakes were feared in six states, with public speaking and enclosed spaces each ranking high in four states. Only Montana cited ghosts as a top fear. Interestingly, five states showed no clear consensus. When asked about facing their biggest fear for $1,000, 24% were willing, while 33% would do it with guaranteed safety.
