Passenger dies, 100+ injured on Spirit of Discovery cruise ship due to Force 11 winds, lost propulsion in Bay of Biscay.
On November 4, 2023, a passenger died and over 100 were injured aboard the Spirit of Discovery cruise ship due to Force 11 winds and severe seas while crossing the Bay of Biscay. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) reported that the ship lost propulsion, causing erratic movements. Eight passengers were hospitalized. Saga Cruises expressed condolences and stated the vessel remained safe throughout the storm. A full investigation report is forthcoming.
