Pacific Islands Forum led by Tongan PM visits New Caledonia after riots to assess unrest and present a report at 2025 summit.

A Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) mission, led by Tongan Prime Minister Hu'akavameiliku Siaosi Sovaleni and including leaders from Fiji, Cook Islands, and Solomon Islands, is visiting New Caledonia for three days to assess the aftermath of recent riots. The mission focuses on fostering dialogue and understanding local perspectives amid ongoing unrest, which has resulted in 13 deaths and over 2,000 arrests since May. A report will be presented at the 2025 PIF summit.
