35% of Korean stroke patients have diabetes, exceeding rates in Sweden, UK, and Japan.

A study from Korea's National Institute of Health reveals that stroke patients in Korea exhibit higher rates of smoking and diabetes than their Western counterparts. Approximately 35% of Korean stroke patients have diabetes, exceeding rates in Sweden, the UK, and Japan, which are around 20%. Additionally, 21% of these patients smoke, compared to 19% in the U.S. and 13% in Sweden. Men represent 59.8% of acute stroke cases, significantly outnumbering women.
