Indian aluminium producers ask the government to raise import tariffs on aluminium and scrap to protect domestic market and promote investments.

Indian aluminium producers, represented by the Aluminium Association of India (AAI), are urging the government to raise import tariffs on primary aluminium and scrap to protect the domestic market and stimulate new investments. Citing a surge in imports from China due to low duties, the AAI seeks to increase tariffs from 7.5% to 10% and 2.5% to 7.5%, respectively. This move aims to enhance self-sufficiency and meet projected domestic demand of 10 million tonnes by 2030.
