2021 JAMA Network Open study reveals older US Black women experience longer delays and less standard breast cancer treatments compared to white women.

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Network Open found that older Black women in the U.S. are less likely to receive standard breast cancer treatments and experience longer delays than white women. Analyzing over 258,000 women aged 65 and older, it showed 18% of Black women did not get guideline-recommended care versus 15% of white women. The findings underscore persistent racial disparities in cancer care, despite Medicare coverage.
