Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Gary Anandasangaree apologized on behalf of the Canadian government for the mismanagement of funds belonging to five Ontario First Nations over a century ago. The apology occurred during a ceremony on Manitoulin Island, which also announced a $447.9 million compensation settlement. This settlement, known as "the Manitoulin Project," addresses historical grievances stemming from the Crown's failure to honor agreements made in 1862.
