80-foot sinkhole fall at Snail Shell Cave during MTSU field trip; student airlifted for treatment.

A Middle Tennessee State University student fell about 80 feet into a sinkhole at Snail Shell Cave during a field trip. Emergency responders, including Rutherford County Fire and Rescue, quickly initiated a high-angle rope rescue. The student was stabilized on-site and airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. The student's identity and current condition have not been disclosed.
