Brazil's IBAMA fined JBS SA and others $64m for buying cattle raised on deforested Amazon land.

Brazil's environmental agency, IBAMA, has fined cattle ranches and meatpackers, including JBS SA, a total of $64 million for purchasing cattle raised on illegally deforested Amazon land. The agency identified 69 properties linked to 18,000 cattle and 23 meatpacking companies involved in this practice. The enforcement aims to combat Amazon deforestation, while JBS claims it does not source cattle from these illegal operations, citing its monitoring system.
