600-pound Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson statue stolen from Rouge Park; $5,000 reward offered.
A life-size statue of Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson, a Detroit native and the last surviving founding member of the Tuskegee Airmen's Detroit chapter, was stolen from Rouge Park. Unveiled in June 2022, the 600-pound bronze statue commemorated Jefferson's service as a WWII pilot and POW. The Detroit Police are investigating the theft, believed to be linked to scrap metal theft. A $5,000 reward is offered for information leading to its recovery.
