West Fraser Timber Co. reported a Q3 2024 net loss of $83 million, due to lower lumber sales and softwood lumber duties, resulting in a Florida mill curtailment.
West Fraser Timber Co. reported an $83 million net loss for Q3 2024, with sales declining to $1.437 billion from $1.7 billion in the previous quarter. Challenges in the lumber market, particularly low prices for southern yellow pine, contributed to the loss, contrasting with a $105 million profit in Q3 2023. Despite this, demand for engineered wood products remained strong. The company also faced $32 million in U.S. softwood lumber duties and announced an indefinite curtailment of operations at its Florida mill.
