Since its April 2024 launch, New Zealand's Immigration Employment Infringement Scheme has fined employers $196,000 for immigration violations affecting migrant workers. A total of 54 fines were issued, primarily in the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing, Construction, Accommodation and Food Services, and Retail Trade sectors. Most fines were between $1,000 and $3,000, with two businesses facing larger penalties for repeat offenses. Penalties can also include loss of employer accreditation and visa sponsorship suspensions.
