London youth create diverse Afro hairstyle emojis to combat texturism, set for Unicode approval in 2025.

A group of young Londoners has developed a series of emojis showcasing Black and mixed-race hairstyles, including afros, braids, cornrows, and locs, to combat texturism—discrimination against Afro hair. In collaboration with RISE.365 and Good Relations, the emojis will be submitted to Unicode for approval in April 2025. The initiative aims to promote inclusivity, challenge beauty stereotypes, and empower individuals affected by hair discrimination.
