Lagos State Speaker confirms no plans to eliminate LCDAs; proposes four-year tenure for local officials and funding support.
Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa confirmed that there are no plans to eliminate the 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). During a public hearing on a Local Government Administration Bill, he noted that constitutional amendments are required for the LCDAs to gain the same status as the 20 recognized councils. The bill proposes a four-year tenure for local government officials and mandates funding for LCDAs by the main councils, in line with recent judicial rulings.
