Ireland's Supreme Court reviews proposed salary increases for special care staff in youth detention units.
Ireland's Supreme Court is reviewing proposed salary increases for special care staff who work with at-risk adolescents in detention units. The Child and Family Agency (CFA) struggles with staffing shortages that limit available spaces for children in need. The Department of Public Expenditure has tentatively agreed to align special care staff pay with higher rates at Oberstown youth detention center, allocating €1 million from Budget 2025 for this purpose. The court is also considering a mother's appeal regarding her son's detention.
