Former Walker County Jail nurse Daniel Wyers admits guilt in inmate Tony Mitchell's homicide due to inadequate care.

Daniel Wyers, a former nurse at Walker County Jail, has agreed to plead guilty to deprivation of rights under color of law related to the death of inmate Tony Mitchell, whose death in January 2023 was ruled a homicide. Wyers admitted to failing to provide necessary care and not conducting a psychiatric evaluation, despite being instructed to do so. He faces up to one year in prison and a fine of $100,000. Wyers is the sixth individual to plead guilty in this case.
