EPA introduces new lead dust regulation limits in homes and child-care facilities built before 1978.

The EPA has introduced new regulations to limit lead dust from lead-based paint in homes and child-care facilities built before 1978. These standards, effective early next year, reduce acceptable lead dust levels to undetectable amounts. Despite a 1978 ban, over 30 million homes still contain lead paint, affecting nearly 4 million children under six. The rules aim to lower lead exposure for up to 1.2 million individuals annually, including 178,000 to 326,000 children.
