Siamese crocodile population recovers in Cambodia due to successful conservation efforts.
The critically endangered Siamese crocodile is making a comeback in Cambodia due to successful conservation efforts. Once nearly extinct from hunting and habitat loss, a small population was found in the Cardamom Mountains in 2000. A captive breeding program, initiated in 2011, has helped increase their numbers to around 1,000 in the wild, with over a hundred eggs discovered recently. Collaboration with local crocodile farmers has been vital in this recovery.
