Former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann can appeal defamation case without security deposit due to public interest, while delaying $2m legal cost payment.

Bruce Lehrmann, a former Liberal staffer, can appeal his defamation case against Network Ten and journalist Lisa Wilkinson without a $200,000 security deposit. The Federal Court dismissed the broadcaster's request for the deposit, citing public interest. Lehrmann is also allowed to delay paying $2 million in legal costs following a previous ruling that found he sexually assaulted Brittany Higgins, a claim he denies. No criminal charges are pending due to trial misconduct.
