91-year-old Richard N. Winfield, former AP general counsel and First Amendment advocate, dies following a head injury.

Richard N. Winfield, a prominent First Amendment attorney and former general counsel for The Associated Press, has died at 91 following a head injury. He served the AP for 30 years, advocating for press freedom in numerous cases. After retiring, he co-founded the International Senior Lawyers Project, promoting legal support worldwide. Winfield also taught media law and was dedicated to advancing freedom of expression across more than 20 countries.
