U.S. Federal government denies Maine's $456m grant for offshore wind port on Sears Island.
The U.S. Federal government has denied Maine's $456 million grant request for an offshore wind port on Sears Island, essential for the state's climate goals of 100% renewable energy by 2040. The Maine Department of Transportation had applied for the funding from a competitive federal program. The state is now pursuing an additional $130 million from a different federal source to support the project, expected to be completed by 2029.
