United Methodist Church's Judicial Council to decide on church disaffiliation process over LGBTQ inclusion.
The United Methodist Church's Judicial Council is poised to decide how congregations can disaffiliate from the denomination amidst ongoing disputes over LGBTQ inclusion. Between 2019 and 2023, roughly 7,500 churches utilized a temporary provision to leave, and many are now referencing Paragraph 2549, which addresses church closures due to the denomination's stance on sexual ethics. The council's meeting in Los Angeles from October 23-26 will address these issues.
