Regulators delay lobster size limit increase for six months to align with Canadian regulations.
Regulators have delayed the implementation of new minimum lobster size limits for six months to allow the U.S. industry to adapt and align with Canadian regulations. The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission plans to raise the minimum legal lobster size from 3 1/4 inches to 3 5/16 inches by July 2025, with further increases in 2026. This postponement may lead to a 9%-11% decrease in landings but aims to support lobster stock recovery.
