1.1% increase in NZ greenhouse gas emissions in Q2 2024, mainly from electricity, gas, water, and waste sector.

In the June 2024 quarter, New Zealand's greenhouse gas emissions rose by 1.1% (224 kilotons), driven largely by a 32% increase in emissions from the electricity, gas, water, and waste services sector. While industry emissions overall grew by 1.7%, GDP fell by 0.2%. Notably, emissions from households decreased by 1.2%. Overall, emissions for the year ending June 2024 were 1.8% higher than the previous year.
