A National Institutes of Health study reported a 37% decrease in overdose deaths involving opioids and non-cocaine stimulants due to community intervention programs in Ohio, Kentucky, Massachusetts, and New York. These programs, which included expanded treatment options, naloxone distribution, and education campaigns, resulted in an 8% overall reduction in drug overdose deaths, preventing approximately 525 fatalities. However, the interventions did not significantly lower opioid overdose rates when mixed with cocaine.
