Chattanooga Zoo welcomes two critically endangered pied tamarin twins on September 19.

The Chattanooga Zoo announced the birth of two critically endangered pied tamarin twins on September 19. With only six zoos in the U.S. housing these primates, the zoo represents about 25% of the U.S. population. To involve the public, a naming contest is underway, offering three name pairs: Appa & Momo, Apple & Cherry, and Merry & Pippin, with the winner revealed on November 12, 2024. Pied tamarins face threats from habitat destruction and the exotic pet trade.
