Nidec Corporation, a Japanese electric motor manufacturer, confirmed a ransomware attack in August 2024, resulting in the theft of over 50,000 internal files from its subsidiary, Nidec Precision. Attackers accessed the company's server using stolen VPN credentials. After Nidec refused to pay a ransom, the data was leaked online. The company has since enhanced its security measures and disabled the compromised VPN application.
