The European Union is selecting a firm to create a joint purchasing platform for critical minerals and energy, backed by a 9 million euro budget. This project is part of the EU's Critical Raw Materials Act, aimed at increasing domestic production and reducing reliance on China. Eight bids are under review, with a contract expected by year-end and development starting next year. Industry support for the initiative has been demonstrated through recent consultations.
