Congress party worries South Indian states' family planning success may impact political representation in Parliament.

The Congress party in India has expressed concerns that the family planning successes of South Indian states—Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka—might reduce their political representation in Parliament. General secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted that these states have achieved replacement fertility levels, and urged the creation of formulas to prevent their representation in the Lok Sabha from being adversely affected due to population-based seat allocations, especially following the delayed 2021 census.
