Chongqing, China cultivates giant rice varieties to increase agricultural productivity and food security.

Chongqing Municipality in southwest China is cultivating giant rice varieties, some reaching 220 cm tall, to enhance agricultural productivity and food security. Initiated in 2021 by the China National Hybrid Rice R&D Center, the initiative has produced over five hybrid varieties, including those tolerant to heavy metals and saline conditions. These technologies have been shared with nearly 70 countries, bolstering rice yields and incomes, particularly in Africa and Sri Lanka.
