Father Marcelo Pérez, a Catholic priest and Indigenous rights activist, was shot and killed by two gunmen in Chiapas, Mexico, following a Sunday Mass. A member of the Tzotzil Indigenous community, Pérez had dedicated two decades to advocating for Indigenous rights and resolving regional conflicts. His assassination has drawn condemnation from Chiapas Governor Rutilio Escandón, who pledged to work with authorities for justice amid rising violence in the area.
