Chatham-Kent PUC projects $1.2bn in water/wastewater capital costs over a decade, leading to potential rate hikes.

Chatham-Kent's Public Utilities Commission (PUC) anticipates nearly $1.2 billion in capital costs for water and wastewater over the next decade, leading to significant rate hikes for users. A rates study estimates water costs at $870 million and wastewater at $305 million. Average annual water bills may rise from $604.64 to $1,156.71, while wastewater bills could increase from $629.72 to $1,199.37. Mayor Darrin Canniff proposed reviewing the PUC's governance structure to address these challenges.
