Study finds SBRT as effective as conventional radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer, with similar gastrointestinal issues and higher late genitourinary toxic effects.

A study in the New England Journal of Medicine shows that stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is as effective as conventional radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer, with a five-year success rate of 95.8% for SBRT versus 94.6% for conventional treatments. While SBRT had a higher rate of late genitourinary toxic effects (26.9%), gastrointestinal issues were similar. The findings suggest SBRT offers a convenient, effective alternative for patients.
