A 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit Akqi County in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on October 17, 2024, at 6:23 a.m. local time. The epicenter was located at 41.11°N latitude and 78.53°E longitude, at a depth of 10 km. The China Earthquake Networks Center reported no casualties or structural damage. Residents in Akqi and nearby Wushi counties felt the tremor, with some being awakened during the quake.
