India transports 1,600 MT onions by rail to Delhi-NCR for price stabilization during festive season.

The Indian government is set to transport 1,600 metric tonnes of onions from Nashik to Delhi-NCR by October 20, utilizing rail for the first time to stabilize rising prices during the festive season. This initiative aims to increase availability and reduce costs, with onions being sold at a subsidized rate of Rs 35 per kg. The government has also procured 4.7 lakh tonnes of onions for price stabilization and is monitoring tomato prices affected by adverse weather.
