Shirl Lee Sweeney, a 50-year-old South Carolina woman, has been charged with unlawful conduct towards a child following the death of a 17-year-old girl in her care. The teenager, diagnosed with diabetes in June 2021, did not receive necessary insulin and missed multiple medical appointments despite staff urging Sweeney to comply. The girl consumed a milkshake, leading to a fatal diabetic complication. Sweeney was booked into the Charleston County Detention Center.
