30-year downtown Champaign café, Café Kopi, closes on Dec. 15 due to post-pandemic business decline and lease ending.

Café Kopi, a downtown Champaign fixture for over 30 years, will close on December 15. Owner Douglas McCarver cited a decline in business post-pandemic and the end of the lease as reasons for the closure. While the café will no longer operate, gift cards and loyalty rewards will still be accepted at its campus location and all Espresso Royale shops. The Champaign Center Partnership acknowledged Café Kopi's significance as a community hub.
