A study from Simon Fraser University indicates that folic acid supplementation during pregnancy may reduce the impact of lead exposure on autistic-like behaviors in children. Published in Environmental Health Perspectives, the research found that pregnant women taking less than 0.4 milligrams of folic acid daily showed stronger links between lead levels and autism traits in toddlers. The findings support Health Canada's recommendation for folic acid intake for pregnant individuals.
