Sri Lankan Deputy Commissioner arrested for accepting bribe to reduce resident's government fees.

A Deputy Commissioner in Sri Lanka's Eastern Provincial Revenue Department was arrested for bribery after accepting Rs. 200,000 to reduce a resident's owed government fees. The complainant, who had purchased land, faced an unexpected duty and fine of Rs. 850,000 following a re-evaluation of the property's value. The official is scheduled to appear in Batticaloa Magistrate's Court.
