South African ex-Defense Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula faces a corruption trial over R4.5m kickbacks from defense contractor Umkhombe Marine, postponed to Dec 5.

South African ex-Defense Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula appeared in court on September 22 for a postponed graft case set for December 5. She faces 12 corruption charges and one money laundering charge related to alleged kickbacks totaling R4.5 million from defense contractor Umkhombe Marine during her tenure. Currently out on R50,000 bail, she has surrendered her passport. The defense is seeking further disclosure of evidence before the next hearing.
